It is fall and the pumpkins are aglow. My Dutch musician friends, the band "Taneytown", have arrived from the Netherlands and received a royal welcome by the city of Taneytown, MD. We've all had a tremendous concert last Saturday and more shows are lined up. They are the nicest guys, great musicians with great original songs. I've heard them compared to early Springsteen and of course they love Steve Earl and consequently named themselves after his "Taneytown" song. It is great fun to have visitors because I get to see this country through a slightly different lens. One I experienced myself 20 years ago. One of the first remarks usually made by a European arriving in the US is about all the wires running wild above ground. Europe has put most cables underground way back in the 50s. So, yes, this is a very noticeable difference. Being a semi tour guide, I get to feel proud of all the beautiful things that I am so used to by now (the gorgeous rolling hills of Carroll County and Southern York County, the charming houses, the warm and uncomplicated way of being with each other, the relaxed driving style and so much more) but it also makes me feel embarrassed for many things that are really shameful for this country, such as the state of some Baltimore city sections (well not just Baltimore of course), the lack of recycling, all the paper cups used, the huge gas guzzling cars, the crime and drug problems, etc.. we all, I am sure, can come up with our own list. Having lived on both continents, I have a pretty good insight into both cultures — none are perfect that's for sure — but boy, we surely would be better off if we could figure out how to combine the good from both!

Wow, it appears I've skipped summer. Where did it go...oh memories of a fabulous time....
Well, I guess most of June and July centered around gigging in Europe with Randall and we had a fabulous time. They concert hosts all treated us so wonderfully ... it was truly amazing and many things so surprisingly accommodating. Just really fabulous. After our tour, a brief visit with family and friends followed as well as a very brief attempt at an actual vacation. Some might argue that my entire trip to Europe was a vacation ... oh well, why would I even argue ;-))) Now, I know, I am way behind posting pictures. I have most of it documented and I do hope some of these pictures will see the light of the day. Stay tuned.

Life is good, but crazy - as always!
Last Friday (May 19) I had a wonderful opportunity to be part of a Townes van Zandt Tribute Concert & Screening for the documentary movie "Be Here To Love Me". I had the great pleasure of performing some Townes songs along side Arty Hill, Caleb Stine, & Linda Nelson, all three tremendously talented Baltimore musicians/songwriters. I feel lucky that I had this chance, or better, reason to dig into Townes's repertoire. What an awesome artist he was. Not, that I didn't know that, but it certainly was another whole experience to study lots of his songs and to figure out how to attempt to fashion my own version of some of his songs. In doing this, I learned a lot. I hope I'll soon have the time to research another artist with a similar intensity! Thanks to everyone who came out and made this a really awesome night. A big thanks also to the Creative Alliance who has great programs and had a wonderful vision in putting this together!

Springs around the corner...but I'm sure you've noticed if you live in the Mid-Atlantic region, or anywhere near the same climate zone...it just makes me happy! So, this is how things are budding, and briming with renewed energy. Lot's of good stuff is in the air...so stay tuned....

Greetings from the Netherlands. The land is flat and the skies are big. I am lucky...the weather has been pretty good so far. Blue skies and not too much rain. I've seen worse for this time of the year in this part of the world. It is the country of iceskaters and that should tell you something.
But on to the news. Last night I met the guys from Taneytown — this lovely Dutch band that has really cool songs, a fabulous website and they love the kind of music I like as well. We had a great rehearsal and I am really looking forward to our gig together on the 27th. I will post some sound clips as soon as I can. So stay tuned and stay warm!

Things couldn't be more exciting - lots of music going on and lots of fun!

I just learned that I have the opportunity to play in the Netherlands. the cold Northern Region, where I'll be sharing the stage with a band named Taneytown at a club/café called Groot Cafe Janseen en Janssen. We actually haven't met yet, but I heard cuts on their website and they sound great. Check it out. They are all Dutch natives and big fans of Americana music, particularly Steve Earle, hence the name (Steve Earle recorded a song called Taneytown).

There is also a House Concert scheduled for Dec. 16 in Towson, MD. The details can be had by sending me an email!
This is a concert together with singer/songwriter Randall Williams.

And it is almost Christmas!
